While attending SUNY Purchase, Justin was approached to design a poster to advertise an upcoming event for the on-campus organization OAPIA (Organization of Afrikan Peoples In the Americas). Since its inception, OAPIA had held annual educational workshops/dinners/parties that highlighted the cultural, political, and historical significance and contributions of Africans to the diaspora, and they were looking for an individual who had strong reference points to many of these historical movements and figureheads to create an elaborate visual piece to use in the promotion of the event that year. By ‘06, Justin had been making a name for himself around campus for his graphic design talents, and was honored to undertake the task of creating an alluring promotional work for OAPIA. He would eventually come up with a striking collage which prominently featured many of the most influential leaders, sports icons, music pioneers, and film stars to emerge from the African community through the duration of the twentieth century.
