“The Grey Movie” was conceived as an chronological account of The Organization, a loosely knit student-based activist movement in the early-to-mid 2000’s that formed as a reaction to the policies of the American establishment under the Bush Administration, from the violation of free speech and pervasive illegal surveillance under the Patriot Act, to the widely divisive and unpopular war in Iraq. From roughly 2002 until 2005, the Organization expanded its ranks outside of its hometown of New York City and at its peak boasted chapters from Massachusetts to Ohio. “The Grey Movie” follows three of the collective’s principal members from their introduction to the world of political and social activism, through their initiation into the Organization, and finally the separate paths they each embarked on once the group disbanded. The film was directed by Nicholas Bruckman and written and associate-produced by Justin, both of whom were former members of the activist group. Justin also later served as an assistant editor on the project. Other contributors to the film were Jordan Forkey, who served as co-Producer and editor, John Matuzzi, who was the film’s cinematographer, and Rob Pappadake, the assistant cameraman. “The Grey Movie” had its debut at the Grammercy Park Hotel on March 19, 2008 and was sponsored by the Reach Film Fellowship. On July 4, 2008 it was also screened by Rooftop Films’ “Outdoor Underground Movies Showcase” along the East River in NYC.
