On December 5, 2009, and again on January 9, 2010, Justin Thomas filmed the talk radio showcase “Hip Hop State of Mind” on WBAI FM radio. The program, which is hosted by social justice activist and noted hip hop journalist Rosa Clemente, is a weekly segment that airs on Saturdays from noon to 1:00PM and covers a broad range of topics that directly affect or reflect on the hip hop community. During the taping of both segments, Rosa was adamant to voice her opposition to the policies of the Obama Administration, and shared impassioned political discussion with a varying range of callers to the show, including her former Green Party running mate from the 2008 Presidential election, Cynthia McKinney, and vocal anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. She also took calls from hip hop artists including Lah from Bronx-based trio Rebel Diaz, and rising teen MC phenom P-Star. On the January 9th segment, Rosa brought in two guests to the studio to share their projects with the show’s audience: poet and activist Kahlil Almustafa, who read selections from his book “From Auction Block To The Oval Office”, a book of 100 poems written in the first 100 days of Barack Obama’s presidency; and April R. Silver, founder and president of Akila Worksongs, who was on hand to promote the book “Be A Father To Your Child”, which she helped to edit alongside such revered names as MC and activist Talib Kweli, film maker Byron Hurt (Hip Hop:Beyond Beats & Rhymes) and hip hop journalist Kevin Powell. Footage from these tapings will appear in Justin’s documentary “The Lost Tapes”.

As I am not an employee or affiliate of WBAI, you would need to ask them. I was only there to film Rosa for her show. But you can contact them online and find out.
