Mental Notes perform at The Blue Note

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

On Friday, February 5th, Justin filmed a blistering set by Mental Notes at the legendary Manhattan jazz venue The Blue Note. With a unique sound that fuses elements of old school hip hop, jazz, funk, and psychedelic rock, Mental Notes have become a unique fixture on the New York live music circuit. Fronted by poet, rapper, and activist Spiritchild, this ensemble has consistently contributed to the pulse of New York’s musical and social movements over the last several years. Their impassioned set at The Blue Note engaged the audience on subject matter that spanned intense emotions, from rage at police and government corruption, to the uplifting vibrations that emanate from the spirit of a culture, a community, and a people striving to better their world. The concert featured new songs that are included on the group’s current EP and future full-length release, entitled “Through Sips of Love & Hallucination”, a collection of tracks that will undoubtedly contribute to the fascinating evolution of this remarkable band of musicians.
